Malesco is one of the seven villages of the Vigezzo Valley, also renowned as the Valley of Painters, for its artistic and historical beauties. A walk through the villages reveals a variety of interesting things to see: the traditional houses with local stone tile roofs, the chimneys of Craveggia and the picturesque Santa Maria Maggiore, where time seems to stand still, the Sanctuary of Re, the little blue train of the 'Vigezzina' that links up Domodossola to Locarno running through the gorgeous and enchanting landscape of the Centovalli.
Malesco and the Vigezzo Valley offer everything to make your stay as happy and relaxing as possible: you can take a walk through the woods of Malesco or follow the tracks that lead to the nearby mountain pastures and typical ancient villages, or bike along the cycle-lane that wings along the valley, or again bathing in the fresh and clear waters of the river. Malesco also provides beautiful equipped picnic areas in the large pinewood and gives you the choice to practice many sports such as horse-riding, and paragliding. Also in the winter season there is a lot going on: for alpine skiing lovers or snowboard, the cable-car goes to the ski-area of La Piana, whereas in Santa Maria Maggiore you can enjoy a 25 km long cross-country skiing ring; snow-shoeing is another winter activity that worth to be experienced. In the Vigezzo Valley many and various events take place all year long: the Malesco film festival in August, the charming Christmas market in December, the international chimneysweepers meeting in September, an original tradition that calls hundreds of visitors for a whole week end.
